Active engagment in AONL committees and conferences since becoming a member of AONL in 2009.


Served on the Virginia Organization of Nurse Leaders Board of Directors, co-chaired Scholarship and Nominations Committee.

Served on the District of Columbia Board of Nursing, Vice-Chair 2013- 2015. During her time on the board, she presented testimony at the DC Board of Health and discussed the State of the Nursing Workforce at a local conference.



As a Commissioner for the City of Fairfax Commission for Women, Simmy advocated for women's rights and co-led the writing of a resolution to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and girls. It was signed and presented by the City of Fairfax Mayor during Women's History Month in 2023.

Honors and Recognition

Inducted into American Academy of Nursing in 2022 for her influential work on trauma-informed care, nursing education, and the use of technology in nursing.

Led ANCC Accreditation Programs, achieving initial PTAP Accreditation with Distinction in 2019 for our Nurse Residency Program and becoming the first hospital in Washington, DC to achieve this accreditation.

Recognized as ANCC PTAP Program Director of the Year in 2023.

Led ANCC Well-Being Excellence Credential as a pilot organization, achieving Silver Tier Credential in 2025, becoming one of the first five organizations, and the first pediatric organization globally.
