Dr. King's impact on nursing education, informatics, and interprofessional practice is substantial. She has established academic-practice partnerships, advocated for the well-being and belonging of nurses within the workforce, and developed programs to prepare nurses for a dynamic, technology-enabled healthcare ecosystem. Her expertise in trauma-informed care led to the development of a validated tool to improve clinician practice and patient outcomes.

She has held positions such as appointed member and Treasurer of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Board of Directors, At-Large Member of the Virginia Organization for Nursing Leadership (VONL) Board, and Commissioner for the City of Fairfax Commission for Women, where she advised on policies affecting women and girls.

 

Dr. King's engagement with AONL includes serving on the Membership Committee, the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee, AHA Operations Committee, AHA Audit & Compliance Committee, and the AONL/ ANA Nursing Leadership Scope and Standards Workgroup. She is currently a member of the LITT Committee.

 

She co-authored the AONL Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Guidelines, as well as the Nurse Leader’s Role in Digital Transformation Guidelines. Additionally, she contributed to the revised Nursing Leadership: Scope and Standards of Practice, 3rd Edition.

participates in professional organizations.
